What you see -
Aakaar, in Sector 17E of Chandigarh is a unit of M/S Ram Lal & Sons. The furniture and home accessories shop that works on ‘redefining interiors’ looks simple and plain from outside. A peek inside, however, breaks the notions. The shop is huge with artistic corners. Creative pieces stand pretty. A damp air surrounds them.
What you get –
Aakaar’s products mostly bend towards traditional designs whether it is cushion covers, artifacts or even a swing made of wood and metal, with an exquisite painting and carving on it. The cushion covers, done in bright colors, with large motifs start at Rs. 350. Artifacts start at Rs. 200. You can find Laughing Buddhas, idols, small key rings and more. Here again, each piece has got a rustic element to it. These are usually in bronze, metal or wood.
Another corner of Aakaar sells furnishings like rugs, bed sheets, bed covers etc. These start at Rs. 700 and vary depending on the size and design. Most of these are in bright colors and can actually make your room come alive. The designs and styles stand out and are different than the modern day sober, printed bed linen.
Take a tour around and you will come across some interesting pieces too. Like the mandir done in wood and metal with several idols related to worship placed in it. We also liked a very unique, traditional bed (Rs. 33,000) made of carved wood painted in golden. The glossy finish added a rich feel to it. Other products worth a buy are paintings (Rs. 1,000 onwards) and white crockery (Rs. 4,500 onwards).
Aakaar also provides interior design services.
Our verdict –
The products at Aakaar are definitely unique. And as mentioned before, the designs are traditional. So if you have contemporary tastes, this may not suit you. Nonetheless, the variety available here is good. Parking space is available in Sector 17’s parking lot.
