Chandigarh Ayurved Center for holistic disease management | Chandigarh

What you see - Chandigarh Ayurved Centre is a simple looking clinic in the residential area of Sector 32-C, Chandigarh. The 24-year-old centre is easy to locate but has a limited parking facility because of its presence right next to the main road. For the same reason, the head of the centre, Vaidya Jagjit Singh opened another centre in 2010, in sector 22-B, Chandigarh. The latter is an extension of the main centre and both of them are personally taken care of by the distinguished Vaidya himself.

Vaidya Jagjit Singh is the third generation of the famous ayurveda practitioners from the village Amargarh in Punjab. His Grandfather- Vaid Gurbachan Singh, father Dr. Bhagat Singh and mother Smt. Partap Kaur are all big names in this field.

What you get - Physicians at Chandigarh Ayurved Centre believe that the body has the capacity to heal itself. They believe that the best way to heal any disease is by detoxifying the body, followed by strengthening of the immunity and improving the body as a whole. Their treatment system includes herbal medications and yoga therapy. They focus on psychological, physical and mental health and overall wellness.

All herbal medicines are prepared at the centre itself. Commercially prepared ayurvedic medicines are neither used nor prescribed. Regular consultation fee is Rs. 200 (which the Vaidya generously refuses to take if someone needy comes to seek treatment). Medication can cost anywhere between Rs. 300 to 500. Medication for chronic diseases is expensive and can go up to Rs. 1200 in rare cases, since all preparations are done using pure herbs. The jolly physician mentions that medicines are used to enhance the functioning of that particular organ or system and unlike the allopathic medicine system, patients don’t not have to take the medicine for the rest of their life. Disease management is taught to patients through yoga, meditation and right eating habits.

Yoga therapy includes meditation, yoga exercises and personalized counseling. Dr. Gurdish Kaur Brar, the yoga consultant and physician at the centre explains that healing the disease is just one part of the treatments they provide. “We understand that a healthy mind is essential for a healthy body. So, we provide counseling to help patients cope with issues that they are dealing with.” Teenagers are given relaxation therapy through yoga and meditation. Whether it is relationship blues, weight issues or anger management, they treat each problem with equal importance and ensure confidentiality in all matters.

You will not be asked to under-take any diagnostic test. All diagnosis are done through the ancient ayurveda methods like Nadiparikshan (observing the pulse by gently pressing the inside wrist area and diagnosing).

Our verdict - The atmosphere in the clinic makes one feel at home. We suggest fixing an appointment with the doctor to avoid any inconvenience.
