Backpackers, a European style café | Chandigarh

What you see - Backpackers Café was opened in 2008 as a European-styled café in Sector 9, Chandigarh, with the purpose to serve international cuisine in authentic flavors. The café is easy to site. It is a neat and vibrant place serving a wide range of dishes from Italian and Continental cuisines. The most interesting part of the dining experience here is the menu which resembles a newspaper tabloid. Country and rock music playing in the background add to the overall charm of the place.

What you get - The food at Backpackers Café is delectable and the environment is enjoyable. Wooden furniture is placed against walls, which have shelves decorated with car and bike miniatures. Other shelves have travel books on various countries and cities. So once you are done reading the newspaper-like-menu, you can continue entertaining yourself with these books for a while till your order is served.

Placing an order here might seem like a task. There is so much to explore in the menu, apart from food. The menu has humorous quotes, famous sayings, interesting cartoons and also a road map of India showing popular food items of famous cities. The menu is extremely detailed making it further difficult to make a choice. For example, the ‘Breakfast all-day menu’ section mentions eggs (scrambled, double fried etc), with accompaniments such as potato wedges/hash browns, ham/bacon and bread. Even the omelets here are made to order. The menu also extends options such as salads, sandwiches, pizzas to pastas, quiche, steaks and dumplings

Beverages like freezes, shakes, fresh juices, teas, coffee and lime are available. The prices, however, are a bit steep. The variety in soups is limited to the soup of the day. The dessert variety is also limited, but extends options of the classic cadre, including tiramisu, apple pie and chocolate brownie.

Well dressed staff waits on the tables and provides prompt service. Because of the international menu, the cafe is visited by many foreign tourists.

Our verdict – Backpackers Café is definitely expensive. The food and ambience, however, make it seem value for money. Also, it is a great breakfast joint. They accept cards as well as cash for payment. There is enough free parking area for cars which fills quickly by the evening since the area around is a popular local hang out place.
