What you see - Allied Book Centre is a regular book shop with a traditional set-up. No baggage racks at the entrance, no aisles for cash counters and not even computerized data on books available at the store. Yet this medium-sized book store in Sector 15, Chandigarh has a loyal customer base. It’s simple. Racks within the store stock books and those outside hold magazines and newspapers.
What you get – The book store has a wide range of magazines on offer ranging from the upmarket Cosmopolitan to the news-based India Today apart from the ones for women like Good Housekeeping and Femina.
Racks and cupboards inside display school books from CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), ICSE (Indian Certificate for Secondary Education) and the state syllabus. College books are available too. These are available in English and Hindi. Competitive exam books are there too. That apart, Allied has several religious books. You can also buy popular comics like Chacha Chaudhary from here.
The counter which lines the length of the shop is used to display stationery items like registers, notepads, notebooks, dairies etc. The shop also has art material like drawing pens, various kinds of colors etc. You can find a variety of pens like fountain pens, ball pens too, with inks in different colors.
Our verdict – Allied Book Centre is a regular book shop without any frills and is more popular among students looking for their curriculum books. Therefore, don’t expect aisles of space to circulate and browse through the books you need. The service, however, is quick and efficient. Discounts are also offered to regular customers. Parking space is available.
